All I know is that today is the final day of shooting.
It has all been amazing for a number of reasons.
1. The production team. They are so phenomenal I can’t begin to explain. Ungodly hours spent feeding and watering us all, organising locations and cast at the last minute and ensuring that everything has run as smoothly as it has. You guys are the beasts.
2. The social media background artists. Everyone that has answered the call of the great Twitter Horn and joined us on set for long stretches of dancing, looking sexy and partying to no music. You guys are going to make this movie legit.
3. The peeps that have just given us shit for no reason other than to support our cause – Sam Cook (@Cooklet) for instance dropped off two massive jars of delicious cookies yesterday to keep us going. You are the best. And she’s not the only one.
4. The guys that got naked last night. In this freezing Jo’burg weather, 5 girls and 2 guys (including crew!) got naked and braved the icy night air to be in A SWIMMING POOL and give our film that coveted R rating. There was even an actual penis.
5. Dani Swartz. Who jumped in the water in all of her clothes to save an naked swimmer, who had lied about being able to swim. She is a real hero.

After tomorrow morning’s sunrise shot, we go all out in the offline and then it’s a hard slog until screening on Saturday.

Day 3: Polishing

I didn’t write anything yesterday, because I was too busy writing a script for all of you wonderful people.
Today we arrived with a script in three pieces, after a read through of the assembled beast, we shat ourselves and put our noses deep into the computer screen and polished, finessed, revisited stories, characters and moments unti now…
With some warm Picobello’s pizza in my belly, we have a story we LOVE, filled with real characters and some real heart-wrenching moments – we reckon we’re onto something awesome here.
Some great actors have been booked, locations are getting locked down and the support keeps coming, thanks everyone!

Day One: We came, we spoke, we drank coffee…

It all began at the crack of dawn. I fell into the shower at 5AM, dressed in the dark and headed over to the BBC Radio studios. After what was almost definitely (and very appropriately) the fastest radio interview ever (which you can listen to at the bottom of this post), we cruised to Fastest Film Ever HQ and sat around waiting for our nine o’clock start.

With a full house of future film-makers, respectable observers, our web nerds from Plastic Duck Armada and the documentary team, the clock struck nine and we started throwing ideas into the mix.

These ranged from a post-apocalyptic anti-establishment film set in a separatist camp, to a drama about roadside crosses and the stories behind them. We debated and pleaded our cases, we played devil’s advocate (not the movie, just the phrase) and we drank coffee. At the end of it all, we settled on a concept.

I don’t want to give too much away, but it’s set at night and will probably be a bit funny.
That is all.
Watch this space and we start fleshing out the plot, characters and storyline today.
Hopefully we’ll have a solid beat sheet by lunch today.

Bryan and Ash from Team Best were on 5FM with DJ Fresh this afternoon. They discussed the previous record holder (and Indian film named “Sivappu Mazhai”), the enormity of the challenge facing them, the details behind the process, and whether or not Fresh could cut it as an extra in the movie.
